Sigh of relief, Spring is here (nearly!), I am really looking forward to taking my families outside again, it’s been a while! Outdoor photoshoots get the best out of me, they force me to be creative, to incorporate interesting backgrounds and shoot from different angles.
Admittedly, outdoor photoshoots can be harder – I have to work hard to keep up with toddlers running wild – but it’s always worth it. I believe my best portraits have been captured outdoors and, in fact, I am happiest rolling around on the floor of the woods, with leaves in my hair and mud on my clothes.
Emerging from the Winter, I realise just how my wellbeing depends on getting outdoors, feeling the sun on my face, the ground beneath my feet. Before starting work this morning I ran 5K, most of it through the woods in Eversley. This is my special place. There is an incredible serenity here, and I love to see it transform through the seasons. I can see the beginning of the bluebells, and know that, in a month’s time, the ground will be overflowing with flowers. There is so much to look forward to.
I didn’t know I loved nature so much, but it’s evident in jungle of houseplants I’m growing at home, the exotic dresses I bought for my daughters in Next last weekend, the National Trust membership I’ve just renewed, the Kate Humble book about walking I’ve just finished… I’m determined to bring more nature to my photography with beautiful locations and organic textures.
I’m inspired, so watch this space.
